Who is the Green Man?

No one really knows though there are plenty of theories! He is a mythical figure of the woods and forests. He represents the force of nature and is shown as a face covered with leaves.Whilst his origins are probably pagan he has become a symbol found in many Christian churches. You can see a carved green man in Ripon Cathedral and a stone one at Fountains Abbey, there are others around the country including Wells and Canterbury Cathedrals. Perhaps you might be able to find a Green Man in your local church.
